Upon reading this assignment i felt a relief. I have always thought and said to many people that a tatoo should be something that has great significance to the individual. So often people will get tatoo's as soon as they turn 18 and it will not have any real meaning to them. In my job my youth all want tatoo's and I have taken a personal quest to help show them that tatoo's are okay if they really mean something. A person can get a tatoo of a flower, a tiger, or a skull but that has no significance.
I respect the Japaneese culture for continuing this traditional art form. I feel that if someone was to get a Irezumi tatoo then they truly desire it and it has a meaning. Furthermore the art form is great for being able to have a professional job. I personally will not hire someone that has a tatoo that i can see in an initial interview. In my opionin it is just poor taste.
dont be this guy ^

Jesse,
ReplyDeleteWhoa - nice photo. That's a little disturbing, I agree. I like how you talk about the importance of symbolism and meaning in tattoos, but I think you could have gone much more in depth. The length here is less then 1/2 of what is required, and the analysis (of language, themes context of the writing) is thin. For next time, I suggest writing out your reading response in a WORD document, where you can see the word count. Try to ask yourself questions about the reading, and attempt to answer them in your response.
